The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:27 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Paul Calandra, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Michelle Simson and Alice Wong.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Sandra Gruescu, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Michelle Mann, Lawyer and Consultant. Minwaashin Lodge: Irene Compton, Manager, Cultural Program. National Association of Friendship Centres: Conrad Saulis, Policy Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of violence against Aboriginal women.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:54 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a special meeting to examine the manner in which funding is distributed by Status of Women Canada, and in particular, examine the apparent denial of funding to previous Status of Women Canada grant recipients in the 2009 call for submissions; and invite the current and former Ministers of State for the Status of Women, the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women, Womenspace Resource Centre, the Pay Equity Coalition, Conseil d’intervention pour l’accès des femmes au travail, and any other witnesses that the committee wishes to invite.

 

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
