The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 8:46 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Olivia Chow, Nicolas Dufour, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Robert Oliphant, Devinder Shory, Thierry St-Cyr, David Tilson, Justin Trudeau, Tim Uppal, Alice Wong and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Other Members present: Gerard Kennedy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Daphne Keevil Harrold, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Catrina Tapley, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy; Dawn Edlund, Associate Assiatant Deputy Minister, Operations; Wally Boxhill, Director, Integration and Resettlement Program Delivery; Deborah Tunis, Director General, Integration. Naylor-McLeod Group Limited: Colin Gomez, Coordinator, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada. Community Action Resource Centre: Marion Newrick, Executive Director, Toronto; Diane Walter, Vice-Chairperson, Board of Directors. Thunder Bay Multicultural Association: Cathy Woodbeck, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the study of Immigration Settlement and Adaptation Program, in the amount of $21,450, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget for the study of Interim Federal Health Program, in the amount of $2,050, be adopted.

 

At 8:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:51 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 3, 2011, the Committee commenced its study of Immigration Settlement and Adaptation Program.
 

Catrina Tapley made a statement and, with Dawn Edlund, Deborah Tunis and Wally Boxhill, answered questions.

 

At 9:45 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:48 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Colin Gomez, Marion Newrick, Diane Walter and Cathy Woodbeck by videoconference from Thunder Bay, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
