The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:51 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Robert Oliphant, Thierry St-Cyr, David Tilson, Justin Trudeau, Tim Uppal, Alice Wong, Borys Wrzesnewskyj and Terence Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Daphne Keevil Harrold, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, P.C., M.P., Vancouver South. Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Andrew Griffith, Director General, Citizenship and Multiculturalism Branch; Nicole Girard, Director, Legislation and Program Policy; Alain Laurencelle, Legal Counsel, Integration and Admissibility Team, Legal Services.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, September 28, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-467, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (children born abroad).
 

The Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh answered questions.

 

At 4:17 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:19 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Andrew Griffith made a statement and, with Nicole Girard and Alain Laurencelle, answered questions.

 

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the hearings on Bill C-467, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (children born abroad) be at the same time of Bill C-37, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act and to make consequential amendments to another Act (Strengthening the Value of Canadian Citizenship Act) once the Order of Reference for Bill C-37 is sent to the Committee.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
