The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 8:56 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Carrier for Jean-Yves Laforest.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Don Stephenson, Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade Policy and Negotiations; Laurent Cardinal, Director General, North America Trade Policy Bureau; Stéphane Jobin, Director, North America Policy and Relations Division; Lynda Watson, Director, North America Commercial Programs; Michael Rooney, Director, Unites States Transboundary Affairs Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of Canada-United States trade relations.
 

Don Stephenson made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:21 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:24 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hear witnesses as part of its study on Canada-United States trade relations on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Canada-United States trade relations, the proposed budget in the amount of $41,488 for the Committee’s travel to Washington, D.C., be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study on Canada-United States trade relations, the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to working meals to be held during its travel to Washington, D.C. in February-March, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to its study on Canada-United States trade relations, the Committee be authorized to purchase up to $150 in gifts to be presented to foreign hosts during its trip to Washington, D.C., in February-March 2011.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
