The Standing Committee on International Trade met by videoconference at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Colin Mayes for Dean Allison and Michael John Savage for Mario Silva.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Grain Growers of Canada: Richard Phillips, Executive Director; Gary Stanford, Farmer Director. American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO): Jeff Vogt, Deputy Director, International Department. Human Rights Watch: Christoph Wilcke, Senior Researcher, Middle East and North Africa Division.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, September 27, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
 

Richard Phillips, Gary Stanford, Jeff Vogt and Christoph Wilcke, by videoconference from Munich, Germany, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:14 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee sit on Monday, November 1, 2010 in order to hear witnesses on Bill C-8, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and then proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of the bill.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $98,127, for the Committee's travel, in relation to its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union, to London, United Kingdom; Strasbourg, France and Rome, Italy in November, 2010, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That in relation to its study on free trade between Canada and the European Union, the Committee travel to London, United Kingdom; Strasbourg, France and Rome, Italy from Saturday, November 20 to Friday, November 26, 2010.

 

At 5:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
