The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met in a video recorded session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Claude Bachand, Garry Breitkreuz, Bob Dechert, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Jean Dorion, Jack Harris, Hon. Laurie Hawn, Greg Kerr, Deepak Obhrai and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Hon. John McKay for Hon. Bob Rae.

Other Members present: Paul Dewar.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst ; James Lee, Analyst.

Witnesses: Privy Council Office: Greta Bossenmaier, Deputy Minister, Afghanistan Task Force. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Gordon Venner, Assistant Deputy Minister, Afghanistan, Middle East and Maghreb. Canadian International Development Agency: Françoise Ducros, Vice-President, Afghanistan Task Force. Department of National Defence: Jill Sinclair, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy; Robert Davidson, Director of Staff, Strategic Joint Staff.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on the Canadian mission in Afghanistan.

Greta Bossenmaier made a statement.

At 3:41 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:23 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
