Tabling of Documents

Pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), Mr. Lukiwski (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons) laid upon the Table, — Government responses, pursuant to Standing Order 36(8), to the following petitions:
— Nos. 402-0247 and 402-0260 concerning transportation. — Sessional Paper No. 8545-402-1-06.

Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. Savoie (Victoria), seconded by Mr. Cullen (Skeena—Bulkley Valley), Bill C-371, An Act to amend the Income Tax Act (low-cost residential rental property), was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:
— by Mr. Szabo (Mississauga South), one concerning the income tax system (No. 402-0411);
— by Mr. Byrne (Humber—St. Barbe—Baie Verte), one concerning the Employment Insurance Program (No. 402-0412).
Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Laforest (Saint-Maurice—Champlain), seconded by Mr. Dufour (Repentigny), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should negotiate in good faith with the Government of Quebec to resolve the dispute dating back over ten years regarding the harmonization of the QST with the GST in the early 1990s and agree to provide $2.6 billion in compensation to Quebec for this harmonization, and that Quebec continue to administer these harmonized taxes.

Debate arose thereon.

By unanimous consent, it was resolved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the week of May 4 to May 8, 2009 be designated as National Food Allergy Awareness Week.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Laforest (Saint-Maurice—Champlain), seconded by Mr. Dufour (Repentigny), in relation to the Business of Supply.

Mr. Allen (Welland), seconded by Ms. Crowder (Nanaimo—Cowichan), moved, — That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.

Debate arose thereon.
