The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Merv C. Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Roger Gaudet, Candice Hoeppner, Mario Laframboise, Colin Mayes, Merv C. Tweed, Hon. Joseph Volpe and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Dean Del Mastro for Candice Hoeppner, Hon. Mark Eyking for Gerard Kennedy, Jim Maloway for Dennis Bevington, Pierre Poilievre for Lois Brown, Lee Richardson for Brian Jean and Michelle Simson for Sukh Dhaliwal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst; Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Teamsters Canada: Phil Benson, Lobbyist; William Brehl, President, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Maintenance of Way Employees Division; Mike Wheten, National Legislative Director, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference - Locomotive Engineers. National Airlines Council of Canada: Joseph Galimberti, Representative; Mike McNaney, Representative. City of London: Grant Hopcroft, Director of Intergovernmental and Community Liaison, Chief Administrative Officer's Office. Transport 2000 Canada: David Jeanes, President. Canadian Bus Association: Stuart Kendrick, Treasurer; Sylvain Langis, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday April 2, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of high speed rail in Canada.
 

David Jeanes, Joseph Galimberti, Mike McNaney, Sylvain Langis, William Brehl, Mike Whethen, Grant Hopcroft made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
