Meeting No. 2

The Subcommittee on Canadian Industrial Sectors of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Dave Van Kesteren, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Robert Bouchard, Marc Garneau, Mike Lake, Glenn Thibeault and Dave Van Kesteren.

Other Members present: Jacques Gourde, Richard M. Harris, Daniel Petit and Chris Warkentin.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nathalie Pothier, Analyst ; Terrence Thomas, Analyst.

Witnesses: Quebec Forest Industry Council: Guy Chevrette, President and Chief Executive Officer; Michel Vincent, Director, Economics Markets and International Trade Branch. Fédération des producteurs de bois du Québec: André Roy, Second Vice-President; Daniel Roy, Assistant Director. Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: Renaud Gagné, Vice-President, Quebec. Forest Products Association of Canada: Avrim Lazar, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Industy, Science and Technology on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, the Subcommittee commenced its study of the crisis faced by certain industrial sectors in Canada such as aerospace, energy, forestry, high-tech, and manufacturing.

Avrim Lazar, Guy Chevrette, Renaud Gagné and André Roy made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:59 a.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
