The Subcommittee on Food Safety of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 4:01 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Malcolm Allen, André Bellavance, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Hon. Wayne Easter, Larry Miller and Bev Shipley.

Acting Members present: Pierre Lemieux for David Anderson, Brian Storseth for David Anderson and Francis Valeriote for Hon. Carolyn Bennett.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst ; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Partnership for Consumer Food Safety Education: Brenda Watson, Executive Director; Robert de Valk, Director. Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors: Nick Jennery, President; Jackie Crichton, Vice-President, Food Safety and Labelling. Chicken Farmers of Canada: David Fuller, Chairman; Mike Dungate, General Manager. BC Centre for Disease Control: Lynn Wilcott, Acting Program Director, Food Protection Services. Canadian Cattlemen's Association: John Masswohl, Director , Governmental and International Relations. Ontario Cattlemen's Association: Dan Ferguson, Coordinator, Verified Beef Production - Quality Starts Here. Keystone Agricultural Producers: Robert McLean, Vice-President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Order of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food made Thursday, February 12, 2009 and the motion adopted by the Subcommittee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Subcommittee resumed its study of food safety.

Brenda Watson, Nick Jennery, David Fuller, Lynn Wilcott, John Masswohl, Dan Ferguson and Robert McLean made a statement and, with Robert DeValk, Jackie Crichton and Mike Dungate, answered questions.

At 5:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 6:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 7:47 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
