Tuesday, March 31, 2009
 

The Subcommitte on Food Safety of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 6:28 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Malcolm Allen, David Anderson, André Bellavance, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Hon. Wayne Easter, Larry Miller and Bev Shipley.

 
The Subcommittee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Subcommittee business.
 

On motion of David Anderson, it was agreed, — That the Subcommittee, when studying food safety, which includes the listeriosis crisis of 2008, meet on March 31, April 20, 22, 29, May 6, 13, 27, June 3 and 10, and that the subcommittee establish extra meetings within this time period as necessary; and that the meetings be between 4-10 p.m.; and that the meetings be televised; and that the final report with recommendations be submitted to the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food on or before June 11 with the request that it be reported to the House of Commons prior to June 18.

 

Malcolm Allen moved, — That the Hon. Gerry Ritz, Minister of Agriculture, be ordered to provide the Subcommittee on Food Safety copies of the all briefings and communication book or books provided to him by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the Department of Agriculture, and the Public Health Agency of Canada regarding the listeriosis crisis of 2008.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 7:14 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
