The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Jack Harris, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant, Brent Rathgeber and Blake Richards.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Maria Minna for Mark Holland, Gary Ralph Schellenberger for Dave MacKenzie and Robert Vincent for Maria Mourani.

 

Associate Members present: Irene Mathyssen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Chantal Bernier, Assistant Privacy Commissioner; Lisa Campbell, Acting General Counsel, Legal Services, Policy and Parliamentary Affairs Branch. Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police: Derek Egan, Chief Constable. Criminal Lawyers Association: Vincenzo Rondinelli, Defence Lawyer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and section 13 of the DNA Identification Act, the Committee resumed a statutory review of the Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:46 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budgets for various studies in the amount of $ 26,000, for the period of 2008-2009, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in camera, to discuss its future business.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
