The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met at 4:00 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Jack Harris, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Phil McColeman, Serge Ménard, Maria Mourani, Robert Oliphant and Blake Richards.

 

Acting Members present: Bruce Stanton for Rick Norlock.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety.

 

Witnesses: National Parole Board: Mario Dion, Chairperson. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: William J.S. Elliott, Commissioner. Correctional Service Canada: Don Head, Commissioner. Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2008-2009: Votes 1b, 5b, 10b, 15b, 20b, 30b, 40b, 50b, 55b and 60b under PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS referred to the Committee on Thursday, January 29, 2009.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
