The Subcommittee on the Automotive Industry in Canada of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 6:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Hon. Michael D. Chong, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Francis Valeriote and Robert Vincent.

 

Other Members present: Lois Brown, Martha Hall Findlay, Hon. Maria Minna, Mike Wallace, Jeff Watson and Terence Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada: David C. Adams, President; Don Romano, Vice-Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mazda Canada Inc.. Canadian Association of Moldmakers: Angelo Carnevale, Vice-President. Canadian Auto Workers Union: Ken Lewenza, National President; Jim Stanford, Chief Economist. Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association: Mark A. Nantais, President. Ford Canada: Caroline Hughes, Director Government Relations; David Mondragon, President and Chief Executive Officer; James A. Rowland, Manager Government Relations. Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association of Canada: David Worts, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to the motion adopted in the Standing Committee on Industry Science and Technology on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, the Subcommittee resumed its study of the crisis faced by the automotive industry in Canada.
 

David Mondragon made a statement and, with Caroline Hughes, answered questions.

 

At 7:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Ken Lewenza and Jim Stanford made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:03 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:14 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mark A. Nantais, David C. Adams, Don Romano, David Worts and Angelo Carnevale made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:03 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
