The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met by videoconference at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Leon Benoit, France Bonsant, Paule Brunelle, Nathan Cullen, Hon. Geoff Regan, Devinder Shory and Alan Tonks.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Calandra for Brad Trost and Cheryl Gallant for Russ Hiebert.

 

Associate Members present: Paul Calandra and Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: École polytechnique Montréal: Jean Koclas, Professor, Nuclear Engineering Institute, Engineering Physics Department. University of Ontario Institute of Technology: Daniel Meneley, Acting Dean, Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science. University of Waterloo: Jatin Nathwani, Ontario Research Chair in Public Policy for Sustainable Energy Management, Executive Director, Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy. As an individual: Harold J. Smith.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Atomic Energy Canada Limited facility at Chalk River and the status of the production of medical isotopes.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:28 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
