The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Steven Blaney, Shelly Glover, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Richard Nadeau, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, Pablo Rodriguez and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Harold Albrecht for Royal Galipeau, Sylvie Boucher for Hon. Michael D. Chong, Justin Trudeau for Jean-Claude JC D'Amours and Maurice Vellacott for Daniel Petit.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst; Nicolas Auclair, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Graham Fraser, Commissioner; Ghislaine Charlebois, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch; Johane Tremblay, Acting Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the broadcasting and services in French of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.
 

Graham Fraser made a statement and, with Ghislaine Charlebois and Johane Tremblay, answered questions.

 

At 10:48 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:50 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite Graham Fraser, Commissioner of Official Languages, to a meeting in December for an update on his next report on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games to be presented at the end of November 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the following witnesses: Airport Authorities from the Vancouver, Toronto Pearson, and Ottawa International Airports, and the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) be invited to appear in relation to the study of the broadcasting and services in French of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
