The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Steven Blaney, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude JC D'Amours, Shelly Glover, Yvon Godin, Monique Guay, Pierre Lemieux, Richard Nadeau, Daniel Petit and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Alexandra Mendes for Pablo Rodriguez.

 

Associate Members present: Gord Brown.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages: Graham Fraser, Commissioner; Johane Tremblay, Acting Assistant Commissioner, Policy and Communications Branch; Ghislaine Charlebois, Assistant Commissioner, Compliance Assurance Branch; Pascale Giguère, Acting Director, Legal Affairs Branch; Lise Cloutier, Assistant Commissioner, Corporate Services Branch; Carsten Quell, Director, Policy and Research; Mylène Thériault, Team Leader, Policy and Research; Mark Goldenberg, Consultant.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(f), the Committee commenced consideration of the 2008-2009 Annual Report of the Commissioner of Official Languages referred to the Committee on Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
 

Graham Fraser made a statement and, with Johane Tremblay, answered questions.

 

At 10:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on the federal government's support for post-secondary institutions and their efforts in promoting bilingualism in Canada.
 

Graham Fraser made a statement and, with Mark Goldenberg, answered questions.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
