The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, the Hon. Michael D.Chong, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bouchard, Gordon Brown, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Siobhan Coady, Mike Lake, Brian Masse, Anthony Rota, Dave Van Kesteren, Robert Vincent, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Francis Valeriote for Marc Garneau.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alysia Davies, Analyst; Dan Shaw, Analyst; Dillan Theckedath, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Brian Masse, M.P., Windsor West. Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada: David Adams, President. Automotive Industries Association of Canada: Marc Brazeau, President; Scott Smith, Government and Industry Relations. National Automotive Trades Association: Dale H. Finch, Executive Vice-President. Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association: Mathew Wilson, Consumer and Industry Affairs.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 13, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-273, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (right to repair).
 

Brian Masse, Marc Brazeau, Dale H. Finch, Mathew Wilson, and David Adams made statements and, with Scott Smith, answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee, after concluding hearings on Bill C-273 (Right-to-Repair) and the Agreement respecting the Canadian Automotive Service Information Standard (CASIS) along with the commitments of all the organizations involved and in light of the evidence received by the Committee, report to the House that Bill C-273 not be further proceeded with.

 

At 4:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
