The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Josée Beaudin, Ron Cannan, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Tony Martin, Bob Dechert for Dona Cadman and Robert Oliphant for Raymonde Folco.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: André Léonard, Analyst. House of Commons: Mike MacPherson, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Christian Ouellet, M.P., Brome—Missisquoi. Conseil national des chômeurs et chômeuses: Pierre Céré, Spokesperson.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 29, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-241, An Act to amend the Employment Insurance Act (removal of waiting period).
 

Christian Ouellet and Pierre Céré made statements and answered questions.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

Clause 1 carried on the following recorded division: YEAS: Malcolm Allen, Josée Beaudin, Yves Lessard, Maria Minna, Robert Oliphant, Michael John Savage — 6; NAYS: Ron Cannan, Bob Dechert, Ed Komarnicki, Ben Lobb, Maurice Vellacott — 5.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the result of the vote on Clause 1 be applied to Clauses 2 through 12.

Accordingly Clauses 2 through 12 were also carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 4:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
