The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 11:14 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Josée Beaudin, Dona Cadman, Ron Cannan, Raymonde Folco, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Ben Lobb, Hon. Maria Minna, Michael John Savage and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Megan Leslie for Tony Martin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada: Nicholas Gazzard, Executive Director, National Office. Canadian Housing and Renewal Association: Geoffrey Gillard, Acting Executive Director. Canadian Co-operative Association: Lynne Markell, Advisor, Government Affairs and Public Policy. Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation: Bruce Porter, Consultant and former Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Yves Lessard moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee examine the operation and financial support of organizations that apply for the Enabling Accessibility Fund for small or major projects and that the Committee report its observations and recommendations to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Josée Beaudin moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “of organizations that apply for” with the words “allocated by” and by adding the words “submitted by organizations” after the words “major projects”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Josée Beaudin and it was agreed to.

 

Ed Komarnicki moved, — That the motion be amended by adding between the words ”examine” and “the” with the following :” at the conclusion of the poverty study and for one meeting,” .

Debate arose thereon.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee resume debate on the amendment of Ed Komarnicki at the meeting of April 28, 2009.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
