The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith, Tim Uppal and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Associate Members present: Carol Hughes.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Daniel Lavoie, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Emergency Management and National Security Branch; Serge Beaudoin, Director General, Preparedness and Recovery Directorate. Treasury Board Secretariat: Daphne Meredith, Chief Human Resources Officer; Hélène Laurendeau, Assistant Deputy Minister, Compensation and Labour Relations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of H1N1 preparedness and response.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:20 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That on Monday October 5, 2009 the Committee examine the issue of sodium from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and that the Committee hear from medical stakeholders in relation to its study on H1N1 preparedness and response from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..

 

It was agreed, — That on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 the Committee be briefed by officials on pandemic preparedness from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and that the Committee hear from the Clerk of the House of Commons on the state of pandemic preparedness for the Parliamentary Precinct in relation to its study on H1N1 preparedness and response from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m..

 

It was agreed, — That on Monday, November 2, 2009 the Committee meeting be devoted to the study on the Health Implications of the Supply of Radioisotopes or at an earlier date if possible.

 

At 5:41 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
