The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Lise Zarac.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Catherine Millar, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Shahrzad Mobasher Fard, Analyst; Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Queen's University: Kathleen Lahey, Professor, Faculty of Law. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Armine Yalnizyan, Senior Economist.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on Women in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:39 p.m., the Commitee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $26,000, for the period of February 24 to March 31, 2009 for the study on the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on Women in Canada, be adopted.

 

At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
