The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met by videoconference at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Monique Guay for Luc Desnoyers.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Federally Regulated Employers - Transportation and Communications (FETCO): John Farrell, Executive Director; David Olsen, Assistant General Counsel, Legal Affairs, Canada Post Corporation. Syndicat des employés de la Banque Laurentienne: Danielle Casara, Vice-President. Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN): Claudette Carbonneau, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:42 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:44 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write to Ministers Peter Van Loan and Jason Kenney concerning their appearance or the appearance of their officials on human trafficking at the 2010 Olympic Games.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write to Minister Helena Guergis regarding the questions that were not answered following her appearance February 12, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee make the necessary arrangements for a press conference to be held on June 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. after the tabling of the Committee’s report to the House on the study of the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on women in Canada.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
