The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Malcolm Allen for Irene Mathyssen, Monique Guay for Johanne Deschamps and Hon. Maria Minna for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Shahrzad Mobasher Fard, Analyst; Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada: Isabelle Roy, Legal Counsel, National Office; Geoffrey Grenville-Wood, General Counsel, National Office, Legal Department. Public Service Alliance of Canada: Patty Ducharme, National Executive Vice-President, Executive Office; Andrée Côté, Women's and Human Rights Officer, Membership Programs Branch.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on women in Canada.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 11, 600, for the period of 2009 to 2010 for the study on the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act, be adopted.

 

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of the Public Sector Equitable Compensation Act.
 

Isabelle Roy and Patty Ducharme made statements and, with Geoffrey Grenville-Wood and Andrée Côté, answered questions.

 

At 1:12 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
