The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Francis Scarpaleggia, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Blaine Calkins, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Rod Bruinooge for James Bezan, Johanne Deschamps for Christian Ouellet and Brian Jean for James Bezan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Mark Warawa, it was agreed, — That the following evidence provided by the Minister of Environment at the meeting of February 12, 2009 (ENVI 4) in reply to a question from Bernard Bigras, M.P. to the effect that “The emissions in North America, in the United States specifically, from coal burning plants are 70 times the size of the emissions that come from the Canadian oil sands. The total emissions from the Canadian oil sands amount to 0.005% ...“ be changed to “The emissions in North America, in the United States specifically, from coal burning plants are 60 times the size of the emissions that come from the Canadian oil sands. The total emissions from the Canadian oil sands amount to 0.5% ... “.

 

It was agreed, — That the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009.

 

At 10:48 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
