The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in camera at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Francis Scarpaleggia, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Blaine Calkins, Linda Duncan, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Colin Mayes for James Bezan and Brian Storseth for James Bezan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tim Williams, Analyst; Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the following schedule:

April 30th – Bill C-16, An Act to amend certain Acts that relate to the environment and to enact provisions respecting the enforcement of certain Acts that relate to the environment - Witnesses

May 5th – Bill C-16 - Clause by Clause

May 7th – Bill C-16 - Clause by Clause

May 11th – Oil Sands and Water Study – Northern Alberta

May 12th – Oil Sands and Water Study – Edmonton

May 13th – Oil soils and Water Study – Calgary

May 14th – Committee cancelled due to travel from Alberta

May 26th – SARA-Statutory review of the Species at Risk Act (or Environment Commissioner)

May 28th – SARA

June 2nd – SARA

June 4th – SARA

Jun 9th – SARA

June 11th - SARA

June 16th – Bill C-311, An Act to ensure Canada assumes its responsibilities in preventing dangerous climate change, context – Copenhagen Process, officials

June 18th – Bill C–311, context – Copenhagen Process, officials, NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations); and

That the Committee may wish to hear testimony from the Environment Commissioner or discuss Supplementary Estimates between May 26 and June 18.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee accept the report entitled: “Deep Reductions, Strong Growth: An economic analysis showing that Canada can prosper economically while doing its share to prevent dangerous climate change”, as a brief in its review of Bill C-311, An Act to ensure Canada assumes its responsibilities in preventing dangerous climate change, as directed by the House of Commons.

 

At 10:32 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
