The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Serge Cardin, Claude Guimond, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Larry Miller for Dean Allison.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst. House of Commons: Carmen DePape, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Tourism Industry Association of Canada: Randy M. Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer; Christopher Jones, Vice-President, Public Affairs. Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Shirley-Ann George, Senior Vice-President, Policy; Ryan Stein, Director, International and Trade Policy.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 5, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of Canada-United States Trade Relations.
 

Randy M. Williams and Shirley-Ann George made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:50 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade adopt a budget of $ 16,300 for its study on Chapter 11 of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

 

It was agreed, — That pursuant of Standing Order 108(2) the Committee initiate a study of Canada-South America Trade Relations and that Senator Jorge Enrique Robledo of Colombia and other witnesses be invited to appear on March 26, 2009, to discuss the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
