The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Serge Cardin, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Dechert for Ed Holder, Marc Garneau for Hon. Scott Brison and Roger Gaudet for Claude Guimond.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Robert Dufresne, Analyst. House of Commons: Carmen DePape, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters: Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice-President, Global Business Policy. Canadian Council of Chief Executives: David Stewart-Patterson, Executive Vice-President; Sam Boutziouvis, Vice-President, Economics and International Trade.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, February 5, 2009, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-2, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the States of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland), the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Republic of Iceland, the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Kingdom of Norway and the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Swiss Confederation.
 

Jean-Michel Laurin and David Stewart-Patterson made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:54 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Ed Holder, it was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade meet with a delegation from the European Union on Thursday, March 5, 2009; that the Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, purchase mementos and make the necessary arrangements for a working lunch with members of the Standing Committee on International Trade, members of the delegation and essential staff, in accordance with the guidelines specified in the Financial Management and Policy Guide for Committees; and that every effort be made to provide the necessary interpretation services.

 

Gerald Keddy moved, — That the Standing Committee on International Trade complete its study of Bill C-2 on Thursday, February 26, 2009 and the clause-by-clause on Tuesday, March 3, 2009; and that the Minister of Industry appear before the study on Bill C-2 is completed.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 11:04 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
