The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 9:14 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Serge Cardin, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen and Ed Fast.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst. House of Commons: Carmen DePape, Procedural Clerk; James M. Latimer, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Stéphanie Allard-Gomez, Acting Director General, Latin America and the Caribbean; Hilary Esmonde White, Acting Deputy Director, Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean Commercial Relations Division; M. Guy Boileau, Deputy Director, Regional Trade Policy - Americas.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada-South America Trade Relations.
 

Stéphanie Allard-Gomez made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:21 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:28 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 5, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Canada-United States Trade Relations.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: “An Examination of Selected Canada-US Border Issues“.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analyst be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from Peter Julian, New Democratic Party, provided that it is no more than 4 pages in length and submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Friday, June 12, 2009.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report a dissenting opinion from the Bloc québecois provided that it is no more than 4 pages in length and submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee, no later than Friday, June 12, 2009.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to working meals to be held during its travel to Sao Paulo and Brasilia, Brazil from June 7 to 12, 2009.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
