The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 9:11 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Serge Cardin, Richard M. Harris, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Johanne Deschamps for Claude Guimond, Russ Hiebert for Dean Allison, Deepak Obhrai for Ron Cannan and Andrew Saxton for Ron Cannan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst. House of Commons: Carmen DePape, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: Guy Caron, National Representative, Special Projects. United Steelworkers: Erin Weir, Economist. Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters: Jayson Myers, President. As an individual: Elliot J. Feldman, Trade Lawyer, Baker & Hostetler LLP.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Chapter 11 of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
 

Elliot J. Feldman made a statement and answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 5, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Canada-United States Trade Relations.
 

Guy Caron, Erin Weir and Jason Myers made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Gerald Keddy, it was agreed, — That the clause-by-clause study of Bill C-24, Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Peru, be completed on Tuesday, May 26 2009 and that the Bill be reported to the House at the first opportunity.

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
