The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Scott Brison, Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Richard M. Harris, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Lee Richardson and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Luc Malo for Serge Cardin and Bev Shipley for Ed Holder.

 

Associate Members present: Malcolm Allen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Jennifer Paul, Analyst. House of Commons: Carmen DePape, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Matthew Kronby, Director General, Trade Law Bureau; Cameron MacKay, Director, Regional Trade Policy Division, Americas; Vernon MacKay, Acting Director, Investment Trade Policy Division. Department of Finance: Carol Nelder-Corvari, Director, International Trade Policy Division; Dean Beyea, Senior Chief, International Trade Policy Division. Department of Human Resources and Skills Development: Pierre Bouchard, Acting Director General, International and Intergovernmental Labour Affairs. Department of the Environment: Dean Knudson, Director General, Americas.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 23, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-24, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Peru, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Republic of Peru and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Republic of Peru.
 

Carol Nelder-Corvari made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $58,085, for the Committee’s travel to Lima, Peru, on June 8 to 12, 2009 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $92,214 for the Committee’s travel to Brasilia, Brazil, on June 8 to 12, 2009 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt a budget in the amount of $ 23,650 for its Study of Bill C-24, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Peru, the Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Republic of Peru and the Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Republic of Peru.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
