The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Rod Bruinooge, Dean Del Mastro, Shelly Glover, Nina Grewal, Carole Lavallée, Roger Pomerleau, Pablo Rodriguez, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Scott Simms and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Andrew Kania for Ruby Dhalla.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, for its study on the recent elimination of Federal Government funding programs for arts and culture, the Committee hold three meetings with four witnesses per hour, with five minutes for opening statements.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee formally request that the Minister of Canadian Heritage provide to the Committee copies of all reports, briefing notes, audits, analyses, presentations, charts, memoranda, and other documents prepared by the Department of Canadian Heritage that led to the decision to cease, cut, or fail to renew funding to the following programs, by Friday, March 6, 2009 or earlier if possible:

National Training Program for the Film and Video Sector

Audio-visual Preservation Trust

Canadian culture online (Research and Development Component)

Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program (Endangered arts organizations)

Canada New Media Fund.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the operational budget request in the amount of $23,600 for the study on the elimination of funding programs for arts and culture.

 

At 5:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
