The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Pierre Lemieux, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley and Francis Valeriote.

Acting Members present: James Bezan for Brian Storseth.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst.

Witnesses: Filière biologique du Québec: Julie Belzile, Regulatory Affairs Advisor; France Gravel, President. Ontario Soybean Growers: Dwight Foster, Director. Carl's Choice Meats: Carl Norg, Micro Meat Processor. Roesch Meats and More: Louis Roesch, Owner. National Farmers Union: Colleen Ross, Women's President; Glenn Tait, Board Member. Empire Meat Company: Kevin Soady-Easton, Butcher.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of competitiveness of Canadian agriculture.

France Gravel, Dwight Foster, Colleen Ross and Glenn Tait made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:47, André Bellavance took the Chair.

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:40 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Kevin Soady-Easton, Louis Roesch and Carl Norg made statements and answered questions.

At 12:53, Larry Miller took the Chair.

At 2:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
