The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met at 11:01 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Omar Alghabra, Mike Allen, David Anderson, Catherine Bell, Leon Benoit, Ken Boshcoff, Claude DeBellefeuille, Richard Harris, Christian Ouellet, Lloyd St. Amand, Alan Tonks and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Ken Boshcoff and Cheryl Gallant for Richard Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Natural Resources: Cassie J. Doyle, Deputy Minister; Jim Farrell, Assistant Deputy Minister, Canadian Forest Service; Sue Kirby, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Sector.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry.
 

Cassie Doyle made a statement and, with Jim Farrell, answered questions.

 

On motion of Mike Allen, it was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $ 39 000, for the period of 2007 to 2008 in relation to its study on the unique opportunities and challenges facing the forest products industry, be adopted.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on January 15, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of nuclear safety issues, including safety issues at the Chalk River nuclear reactor.
 

Cassie Doyle made a statement and, with Sue Kirby, answered questions.

 

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
