The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:11 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Lui Temelkovski, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Lui Temelkovski, Hon. Robert Thibault, David Tilson and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: James Bezan for Joy Smith and Hon. Carol Skelton for Patricia Davidson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst; Odette Madore, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Best Medicines Coalition: Linda Wilhelm, Vice-Chair, Operations Committee; Gail Attara, Member, Steering Committee. Drug Safety Canada: Terence Young, Chair. Canadian Health Coalition: Michèle Brill-Edwards, Board Member.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the Committee resumed its study on Post-Market Surveillance of Pharmaceutical Products, Prescription and Non-Prescription.
 

Linda Wilhelm, Terence Young and Michèle Brill-Edwards made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 
At 12:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
 

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee would hold a second meeting on the subject of the new organ donor regulations, either on Tuesday, March 11 or Thursday, April 3, 2008, depending on the availability of witnesses.

 

It was agreed, — That the analysts would prepare a workplan for the Committee in an effort to provide members with options that would include completing the study on Post-Market Surveillance and undertaking a review of the 2004 First Ministers' Accord on Health, entitled "A 10-Year Plan to Strengthen Health Care".

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
