The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:11 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Fabian Manning, presiding.


Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Blaine Calkins, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews, Scott Simms and Peter Stoffer.


In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.


Witnesses: Department of Finance: John O'Neill, Chief, Trade Rules, International Trade Policy Division; Gilles Le Blanc, Senior Chief, International Trade Policy Division, International Trade and Finance. Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Gorazd Ruseski, Director, International Fisheries Policy. John Campbell, Director, International Trade and Business Development.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 14, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the World Trade Organization Negotiations on Fishing Subsidies.

John O'Neill and Gorazd Ruseski made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.


At 10:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:37 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed - That the proposed budget in the amount of $174,216, for the Committee’s travel to St. John's, Bay Roberts, Twillingate, St. Peter's Bay, Yarmouth, Bathurst and Gaspé during April-May 2008 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.


At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
