The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Sukh Dhaliwal, Russ Hiebert, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Richard Nadeau, Glen Douglas Pearson, Paul Szabo, David Tilson and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Carole Freeman for Richard Nadeau.

 

Associate Members present: Larry Miller.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Nancy Holmes, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Rob Nicholson, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

 

Witnesses: Department of Justice: Carolyn Kobernick, Assistant Deputy Minister, Public Law Sector; Joan Remsu, General Counsel, Public Law Policy Section; Denis Kratchanov, Director / General Counsel, Information Law and Privacy Section.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 22, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of the Privacy Act Reform.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2008-2009: Vote 20 under PARLIAMENT and Votes 40 and 45 under JUSTICE referred to the Committee on Thursday, February 28, 2008.
 

Vote 20 under PARLIAMENT carried.

 

Vote 40 under JUSTICE carried.

 

Vote 45 under JUSTICE carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Vote 20 under PARLIAMENT and Votes 40 and 45 under JUSTICE to the House.

 

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
