The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met by videoconference at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bob Mills, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Hon. John Godfrey, Marcel Lussier, David J. McGuinty, Bob Mills, Hon. Geoff Regan, Francis Scarpaleggia, Maurice Vellacott, Mark Warawa and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Brian Jean for Luc Harvey.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sam Banks, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Paul Chastko, Director, International Relations Program, University of Calgary. Canadian Centre for Energy Information: Colleen Killingsworth, President. Department of Natural Resources: Kevin Stringer, Director General, Petroleum Resources Branch; Kevin Cliffe, Director, Oil Division. CANMET Energy Technology Centre (CETC) - Devon: Hassan Hamza, Director General, Department of Natural Resources.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Marcel Lussier, it was agreed, — That the reference to the Joslyn Mine, made by Peter Sylvester, President of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, at the 34th meeting of the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development held on May 28, 2008 in response to a question by Marcel Lussier, be excised.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on January 30, 2008, the Committee commenced its study of the Impact of Oil Sands Development on Present and Future Water Supplies.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
