The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Robert Carrier, Olivia Chow, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger for Colleen Beaumier, Ruby Dhalla for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua and Bradley R. Trost for Wajid Khan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Third Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be adopted:

In accordance with its mandate pursuant to Order made November 20, 2007, your Subcommittee has considered the question of the business of the Committee.

Pursuant to the motions adopted November 22, 2007, and notwithstanding the motion of December 11, 2007, the Subcommittee recommends:

That the Committee include consideration of Bill C-17, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, when it hears evidence on undocumented and temporary foreign workers; and

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee give priority to a preliminary study of Bill C-37, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act.

 

It was agreed, — That the department be invited to brief the Committee on the numbers of first- and second-generation Canadians born abroad, the numbers of applications, and about what difficulties an applicant may face in trying to obtain citizenship.

 

At 4:27 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
