The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Colleen Beaumier, Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Robert Carrier, Olivia Chow, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

 

Acting Members present: Denis Lebel for Wajid Khan and Bev Shipley for Nina Grewal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.

 

At 3:55 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 

On motion of Meili Faille, it was agreed, — That official representatives of CIC appear before the Committee on December 13, 2007, and submit by December 11 a history of regularization programs, statistics and a detailed report on undocumented workers.

 

At 3:58 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the First Report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be adopted

In accordance with its mandate pursuant to Order made November 20, 2007, your Subcommittee has considered the question of the future business of the Committee and, in particular, continuing the work underway at prorogation.

The Subcommittee recommends that the Committee undertake the following work between now and when the House adjourns for the holidays in December:

Call official representatives of CIC to appear before the Committee on December 13, 2007, and send for, for delivery to the Committee by December 11, a history of regularization programs, statistics and a detailed report on undocumented workers;

Consideration of a report on loss of Canadian citizenship during four hours on November 27, and two hours each on November 28 and 29;

Inviting the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration to appear concerning the Supplementary Estimates (A) before they are deemed reported to the House (i.e. December 4 or earlier); and

Considering the issues surrounding Iraq war resisters and Iraqi refugees on December 6 and 11..

 

At 4:08 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 

At 4:10 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

It was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration during the First Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its study of loss of Canadian citizenship for the years 1947, 1977 and 2007 be taken into consideration by the Committee in this session.

 

At 4:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
