The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in the Jubilee A Room, Heritage Inn Moose Jaw, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dave Batters, Colleen Beaumier, Robert Carrier, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Ed Komarnicki and Thierry St-Cyr.

 

Witnesses: St. Maratken Community Society Inc.: Alex Istifo, President; Helen Smith-McIntyre, Chair, Refugee Coalition. Regina and District Chamber of Commerce: John A. Hopkins, Chief Executive Officer. Government of Saskatchewan: Eric Johansen, Director, Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program, Immigration Branch, Advanced Education, Employment and Labour. Saskatoon Immigration and Employment Consulting Services Inc.: Daniel Hirschkorn, Director. TDL Group (Tim Hortons): Chris Thomas. Westcan Bulk Transport Ltd.: Chelsea Jukes, Consultant, Human Resources; Sandra Cornford, Foreign Worker Liaison.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of Iraqi refugees.
 

Helen Smith-McIntyre and Alex Istifo made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:57 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:11 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented and temporary foreign workers.
 

Eric Johansen and John A. Hopkins made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:01 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Daniel Hirschkorn, Chris Thomas and Chelsea Jukes made statements and, with Sandra Cornford, answered questions.

 

At 12:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
