The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Gary Schellenberger, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Denis Coderre, Ed Fast, Hon. Hedy Fry, Luc Malo, Maria Mourani, Francis Scarpaleggia, Gary Schellenberger and Bill Siksay.

 

Acting Members present: Alan Tonks for Hon. Andy Scott.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 6, 2008, the Committee resumed its study on the dismantling of the CBC Radio Orchestra, on CBC/Radio Canada's commitment to classical music and the changes to CBC Radio 2.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

It was agreed, — That the report on the dismantling of the CBC Radio Orchestra, on CBC/Radio Canada's commitment to classical music and the changes to CBC Radio 2 be tabled in the House of Commons, and that a copy of the report be sent to the Minister of Canadian Heritage for her information and consideration.

 

It was agreed, — That the draft report, as amended, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the report be entitled: Report on the CBC Radio Orchestra, on CBC/Radio Canada's commitment to classical music and the changes to CBC Radio 2.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the committee authorize the printing of supplementary opinions, of a maximum of one page, as appendices to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair and that the opinions be sent to the Clerk of the Committee by electronic mail in both official languages before 3:00 p.m. on June 13, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee print 75 copies in English and 75 copies in French.

 

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:54 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Maria Mourani moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee report the following to the House at the first opportunity:

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage recommends that the government commit to allocating to the Canadian Television Fund long-term funding that is indexed to private sector increases so that the share allocated to CBC/SRC productions is always at least 37% of total funding regardless of the government’s follow-up to the recent CRTC recommendations on the Canadian Television Fund.

 

It was agreed, — That Paul Gratton be invited to appear before the Committee on Tuesday June 17, 2008.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
