Mr. Goodyear (Cambridge), seconded by Mr. Bruinooge (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians), moved, — That the Seventh Report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented on Friday, May 19, 2006, be concurred in.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the following recommendation of the Committee was agreed to:

The House of Commons direct that, notwithstanding any other provision in the Conflict of Interest Code for Members of the House of Commons, and in accordance with section 24(3)(l) of the Code, the Ethics Commissioner not include in the public summary prepared for Members any information relating to the place or manner of employment of dependent children of the Member.

Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Bélanger (Ottawa—Vanier), seconded by Mr. Silva (Davenport), moved, — That, in view of the ratification by Canada of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the House insist that the government, its departments and agencies maintain the program policies and regulations in support of Canada's artistic sector and cultural industries, in particular, by maintaining or enhancing: (a) existing Canadian cultural content requirements; (b) current restrictions on foreign ownership in the cultural sector; and (c) financial support for public broadcasting in both official languages.

Debate arose thereon.

Mr. Angus (Timmins—James Bay), seconded by Ms. Nash (Parkdale—High Park), moved the following amendment, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “government” the following:

“provide direction to trade negotiators to ensure that domestic cultural rights are not undermined in any trade talks and that”.

Debate arose thereon.
