The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Gord Brown, Hon. Raymond Chan, Hon. Irwin Cotler, Laurie Hawn, Mark Holland, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard and Rick Norlock.

Acting Members present: Omar Alghabra for Mark Holland, France Bonsant for Carole Freeman and Paul Dewar for Joe Comartin.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robin MacKay, Analyst.

Appearing: Hon. Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety.

Witnesses: National Police Services of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Peter D. Martin, Deputy Commissioner. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Paul Gauvin, Deputy Commissioner, Corporate Management and Comptrollership. Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada (PSEPC): John Brunet, Comptroller. Canada Border Services Agency: Candace Breakwell, Director, Legislative Affairs and ATIP.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee resumed consideration of the Main Estimates 2006-2007: Vote 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 under PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS referred to the Committee on Tuesday, April 25, 2006.

Stockwell Day made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
