The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Diane Marleau, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Raymond Bonin, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, James Moore, Richard Nadeau, Peggy Nash, Pierre Poilievre, Hon. Raymond Simard, Louise Thibault, Chris Warkentin and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Guy Beaumier, Analyst ; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

Witnesses: Department of Public Works and Government Services: Margaret Kenny, Director General , Office of Greening Government Operations; Elizabeth Hopkins, Director , Policy Development, Office of Greening Government Operations. Treasury Board Secretariat: Shirley Jen, Senior Director, Real Property & Materiel Policy Division, Government Operations Sector. Department of the Environment : Berny Latreille, Director, Environmental Affairs. Department of Natural Resources: Anne Auger, Director, Buildings Division, Office of Energy Efficiency.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, the Committee commenced its study of the greening of government operations.

Margaret Kenny made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:01 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Public Works and Government Services and the President of the Treasury Board in relation to its study of the Main Estimates of 2007-2008 .

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study on the federal government real estate and heritage buildings.

It was agreed, — That the Committee undertake a study on the demographic challenges of the federal public sector.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
