The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:47 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Robert Bouchard, Blaine Calkins, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Russ Hiebert and Hon. Joe McGuire.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McCallum for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Hon. Judy Sgro for Wajid Khan and Alan Tonks for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Minister of National Defence be invited to appear before the Standing Committee on National Defence prior to the upcoming NATO Defence Ministers’ meeting to answer questions about his recent travel in Afghanistan and developments in Canada's mission there.

 

It was agreed, — That the motion on Committee travel to Afghanistan of Tuesday, June 20, 2006, be amended by the deletion of the words “in September or October, 2006”.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee present an interim report on the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.

 

ORDERED, — That the Clerk prepare for the consideration of the Committee plans for travel to National Defence Headquarters, Canadian Expeditionary Force Headquarters, Petawawa, Edmonton and Gagetown.

 

At 4:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
