MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 31

Tuesday, December 5, 2006

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Randy Kamp, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Fabian Manning, Bill Matthews and Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Commitee invite Micheal B. McSweeney, Vice President, Bennett Environmental Inc. to discuss the Belledune Incinerator.

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite officials from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to discuss the Herring Spawn on Kelp Fishery.

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the Committee schedule set out for January-June 2007, the Committee continue to sit in its currently scheduled time of Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

It was agreed, — That the Committee write a letter requesting an update from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans on the Committee’s previous reports on the Northern Cod, ''Northern Cod: A Failure of Canadian Fisheries Management'' and on the report ''Aquatic Invasive Species''.

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
