The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Brian Pallister, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Dean Del Mastro, Rick Dykstra, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, Brian Pallister, Pierre A. Paquette, Thierry St-Cyr, Hon. Robert Thibault, Mike Wallace and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: Christian Ouellet for Pierre A. Paquette.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Laurin, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Bankers Association: Raymond J. Protti, President and Chief Executive Officer; Karen Michell, Vice-President, Banking Operations. As an individual: Lew Johnson, Professor of Finance, School of Business, Queen's University. Option consommateurs: Michel Arnold, Executive Director; Jannick Desforges, Manager , Legal Services. Canadian Payments Association: Guy Legault, President and Chief Executive Officer; Doug Kreviazuk, Vice-President, Policy and Research; Barbara Ciarniello, Associate Vice-President, Credit Union Central of British Columbia, Payment Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on automated teller machine fees and electronic payments.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:13 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 12:18 p.m., Massimo Pacetti took the Chair.

At 12:40 p.m., Brian Pallister took the Chair.

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
