The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 10:02 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Brian Pallister, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Dean Del Mastro, Rick Dykstra, Hon. John McCallum, Hon. John McKay, Massimo Pacetti, Brian Pallister, Pierre A. Paquette, Michael Savage, Thierry St-Cyr, Mike Wallace and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Joe McGuire for Michael Savage.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing to study the implications of the Notice of Ways and Means Motion tabled by the Minister of Finance on 25 September, 2006 concerning amendments to the Excise Tax Act, specifically the elimination of the visitors GST rebate.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:27 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, October 30, 2006, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-28, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on May 2, 2006.
 

The Chair calls Clause 1.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 12:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:47 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2007 : Vote 1a under CANADA REVENUE AGENCY and Votes 1a, 25a and 30a under FINANCE referred to the Committee on Monday, October 30, 2006.
 

By unanimous consent, the Chair calls Vote 1a under CANADA REVENUE AGENCY and Votes 1a, 25a and 30a under FINANCE.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Vote 1a under CANADA REVENUE AGENCY and Votes 1a, 25a, 30a under FINANCE carried severally.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair report Votes 1a under CANADA REVENUE AGENCY and Votes 1a, 25a, 30a under FINANCE to the House.

 

At 1:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
