The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Norman Doyle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Johanne Deschamps, Barry Devolin, Norman Doyle, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Ed Komarnicki, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Blair Wilson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jennifer Bird, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee adopt the following workplan:

Thursday, October 5, 2006 - Refugee Issues (Witnesses from the Canadian Council for Refugees)

Tuesday, October 17, 2006 - Immigration Issues (Witness, Jean-Guy Fleury, Chair from Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada)

Thursday, October 19, 2006 - Refugee Issues (Witnesses from the Canadian Ecunemical Justice Initiatives (KAIROS))

Tuesday, October 24, 2006 - Hungarian Revolution - What it meant in terms of Canadian Refugee Policy historical perspective (Witness: Carol Turner)

Thursday, October 26, 2006 - Study on Detention Centers - Security Certificates (Winesses: Department Officials from CIC & CBSA)

Monday and Tuesday, October 30 and 31, 2006 - Visit to Detention Center in Kingston

Thursday, November 2, 2006 - Refugee Issues(Witnesses from Sanctuary Committees).

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee request that the Chair write to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, suggesting to HUMA to recognize the testimony on the subject of international credentials heard by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration in cross country hearings during the 38th Parliament.

 

It was agreed, — That notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, May 8, 2006, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be composed of two Conservative members, one being the Chair and the other not the Parliamentary Secretary, two Liberal members, and one member from the Bloc and the New Democratic Parties.

 

At 10:49 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
